But creating custom mappings for the pots looks pretty easy, so I'll try that route before making racks with macros for everything. For that one, the macro knobs were mapped to the pots automagically (maybe that's what the pots do in device mode).

The big thing about the L25: it just works, and since it doesn't require special software for most of the functions, figuring out stuff by trying logical button presses yields fruit. Had to look up the Launchkey Mini (again, because I researched before buying this time) and it's tempting, but I really prefer the little LCD like the M32 has so I know what I'm editing. About the same width but deeper and at least double the height (so I can't slide it under my monitor stand like I could with the M32). Got the Launchkey 25 yesterday and my immediate thought was 'omfg it's huge'.
